The Opportunity

The Health Care Aide (HCA) is an unregulated member of the interprofessional healthcare team who provides ongoing client care and reports directly to the Client Service Manager. The HCA is responsible for the observation, monitoring, and reporting of the client’s status and condition, which includes any changes in their physical and emotional well-being. The HCA guarantees that the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) are informed of any modifications to the client’s status.

Prescribed medications are delivered accurately in accordance with policy and procedure in this role. This position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times in accordance with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care, and policies. Also accountable for other pertinent responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Graduation from a Health Care Aide program that is recognized by the Alberta Government is mandatory, in addition to completion of Grade 12.
  • Effective communication, reading, and writing in English are prerequisites.
  • The individual must possess the physical capacity to supervise the frequent raising, transferring, and repositioning of clients.
  • Requires active and current registration in the Alberta HCA Directory.
  • Experience in a health care facility that is relevant is advantageous. An asset is a program-specific instruction or experience.
