Qualifications:

  • Certifications: AED and CPR.
  • It is essential to be able to express or demonstrate skills in a manner that is consistent with the standards of the YMCA and USAG.
  • Stay informed about your field by participating in all available trainings and meetings.
  • The following are the physical requirements: the ability to speak clearly, speak forcefully, speak fluent English, bend, stoop, twist, push, pull, climb, balance, and walk, the ability to see 20/20 with corrective lenses, the ability to lift over 25 lbs, and the demonstration of patience and understanding. Possess the capacity to hoist and rearrange equipment, as well as to lift a child of average to small size.
  • Having the capacity to instruct and observe participants, as well as to communicate the rules, progressions, skills, and expectations of individuals aged 18 months and older in accordance with the appropriate skills and progressions established by USA Gymnastics.
  • A minimum of three months of expertise as an assistant instructor is required prior to transitioning to a head instructor position.

Essential Functions:

  • Be aware of and adhere to the YMCA Instructor code of ethics.
  • Foster positive relationships with participants and members, and offer guidance and motivational support.
  • Dress in a YMCA staff blouse and pants or shorts that do not have a print on the rear. It is permissible to wear tennis shoes, stockings, or bare feet. Spaghetti straps, pajamas, flip flops, belly-baring shirts, extremely short shorts, ill-fitting shorts, or pants that may tumble down to reveal your underclothing are prohibited from being worn with the dress.
  • Utilize the lesson plans that have been provided to establish and prepare for your class, ensure that it is conducted promptly, and provide all students with an equal opportunity.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
  • Comprehend and adhere to all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols.
  • Work your routinely scheduled hours with no more than two substitutions in a seven-week session and no more than one substitution in a five-week session. Contact your own substitute or request days off before the session commences.
  • Complete incident and accident reports as required.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness, enforcing regulations and preventing catastrophes before they occur.
  • Position yourself to ensure that you can observe all of your pupils; do not ever turn your back to your class. Do not permit a pupil to depart from your class without a clear understanding of their destination. Before your pupil visits a parent, you must verify that the parent is available.
  • Plan your activities and prepare your provisions for the class by arriving 10 minutes prior to the commencement of your lesson.
  • Upon the conclusion of the class, dispose of any materials that were utilized. Please notify the Program Director of any malfunctioning equipment.
  • Review and remain informed about the YMCA session program guide. Familiarize yourself with the Tumbling & Trampoline program to effectively represent it in the Y and the community.
