About the Opportunity:

The Community Home Visitor (CHV) is a critical component of a collaborative, interdisciplinary Public Health team that is accountable for the provision of programs and services by the Public Health Standards and Protocols of Nova Scotia. The CHV reports to the Early Years Manager. The CHV is dedicated to assisting families during the prenatal, postpartum, and early childhood periods, with a particular emphasis on families that are at risk of poor child health and development outcomes or are potentially vulnerable.

The Enhanced Home Visiting (EHV) Program is implemented by the CHV through a strengths-based, family-centered approach. The home visits are founded on Growing Great Kids (GGK). The CHV collaborates with the Early Years team (Public Health Nurses, EHV Coordinator, Administrative Support, Early Years Consultant, and Manager) to guarantee the integrity of case management and service delivery for the Enhanced Home Visiting program.

About You:

If you have the following, we would be delighted to hear from you:

  • Grade XII and a diploma in Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, or Human Services from an accredited educational institution are prerequisites.
  • One year of experience in the provision of services to or working with children and families is required.
  • Having additional training in early childhood development is advantageous.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a dependable vehicle (travel will be necessary)
  • Cultural First Nation Competency Training is a valuable asset.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid or a willingness to obtain it
  • Capacity to operate general office equipment and audiovisual equipment
  • Demonstrates the core competencies for public health as delineated in the job analysis.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Health Protection Act and other pertinent regulations, legislation, and acts, with a particular emphasis on the Child and Family Services Act.
  • Competence in additional languages is advantageous; French is the preferred language.
