One of the nation’s oldest law enforcement agencies, the New York City Department of Investigation (DOI), is dedicated to the prevention of municipal corruption. DOI is currently recruiting ten (10) college assistants to fill a variety of positions in operations and investigations. The tasks assigned to college aides may include conducting sensitive and confidential investigations into waste, fraud, and corruption within city agencies, as well as examining and analyzing financial records and documents, complex data, and information technology. Ideal Investigative:
The ideal Investigative College Aide will:
- Assist in the development of investigative plans and strategies; identify, procure, and analyze pertinent evidence and records; and conduct interviews.

The optimal Finance/Budget, Internal Audit College Aide will:
- Examine financial data, including revenue and expense projections, and reconcile financial statements.
- Generate financial statements, including balance accounts, invoices, and other documents.
- Engage in internal audit and risk activities, including risk assessments, internal audit initiatives, and the aggregation, analysis, and visualization of risk data.
- Conduct research on laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures, and external regulatory documents to guarantee adherence to relevant rules and regulations, with a particular emphasis on federal forfeiture funds.
The optimal Information Technology College Aide will:
- Help with the planning, execution, and completion of IT projects, and collaborate with project teams to ensure the achievement of project objectives.
- Collaborate with senior IT personnel in the field of cybersecurity to execute system upgrades and patches that guarantee optimal performance and network security.
- I code, test, and debug software applications in conjunction with the development team.

The college attendants will be fingerprinted and subjected to a background investigation if they are chosen. In addition, the candidate’s consumer credit history will be examined during the background investigation for positions that have a law enforcement and/or investigative function, as permitted by NYC Administrative Code 8-107(24)(b)(2)(A).
Minimum Qualifications:
- For Assignment Level I: Graduation from a college or graduate institution that is accredited. Employment is contingent upon maintaining enrollment in a college or graduate program.
- For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): You must graduate from an accredited college or graduate institution. Completion of a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or a closely related field at a college or graduate school, which may include or supplement with nine-semester credits in an acceptable course of study, is a prerequisite for employment.
- For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): You must graduate from an accredited college or graduate institution. Completion of a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or another area relevant to the assigned information technology project(s) at a college or graduate school, which may include or supplement with nine-semester credits in an acceptable course of study, is a prerequisite for employment. The Technology Steering Committee will appoint individuals to this assignment level through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
