Position Summary:

In order to guarantee that rooms under isolation restrictions are subject to appropriate controls, the Environmental Services Aide is responsible for performing general and specific responsibilities in designated areas in accordance with Infection Control policies and procedures. The Environmental Services Aide reports to the Manager of Environmental Services. It is imperative to preserve a safe and pure environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily cleaning of the following areas: nursing stations, patient rooms, and washrooms, which includes the floors, walls, entrances, stairwells, and utility room.
  • Ensures that appropriate controls are maintained for rooms under isolation restrictions by adhering to strict infection control policies and practices.
  • As needed, collects and disposes of recycling, refuse, and garbage.
  • Responsible for the transportation, washing, and drying of soiled linens, as well as the movement of empty and full laundry trolleys to designated areas.
  • It may be necessary to operate in multiple locations and rotate shifts.
  • Assists in the preparation of special events
  • Additional environmental services responsibilities as designated

Qualifications:

  • Secondary school or an approved equivalent Housekeeping experience in a hospital or similar setting is required.
  • An asset in the healthcare setting is a housekeeping certificate.
  • Expertise in the operation of floor care machines that are effective
  • Capacity to lift weights of up to fifty (50) pounds Comprehension of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (W.H.M.I.S.)
  • Understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other pertinent legislation
  • Compassionate, highly motivated individual with exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Strong time management skills and an exceptional attendance record Ability to operate in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities in the English language
  • Proven proficiency in the use of computer software applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and intranets.
